My Dad collects model trains, and I've inherited a love for them, probably because they're associated with so many good memories.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/03/2007 12:56 AM

I peaked at their site - they have some of their illustrations listed - I love 'how to make an ivy crown' - and 'cootie catchers' :) This book was already on my list to buy - but I would love a copy!!!

By Blogger Thyen Party of Four, at 11/03/2007 5:57 AM

these books really look like fun, maybe even more fun for moms and dads haha.

****I love that it gets children outside for active play and reconnects them with their parents.****

I think the *GIRLS BOOK* would be a great gift for my nieces! My favourite retro game would have to be handclap games/songs. Not sure if the kids still do this but it sure was popular back in the day!

I still love jacks and I'm still REALLY good at it - I can do frontwards, backwards and at least 2 tricks (Lick the Lolly, Wedding) straight through without stopping.

I have 3 girls (14, 5, and 7 months), and I already bought the boys version, so I would LOVE it if I was randomly selected for the girls.

I would love to get good at jumping rope with my middle girl while she learns to jump rope. It could really help me lose the baby weight.

By Blogger Brooke, at 11/03/2007 7:00 AM

I love 4-square. Takes 4 to play, a ball, and draw lines in the dirt! No schoolyard skills :-( I used to hoola hoop and would love to learn again! I would love to read the girls books to my new granddaughter due in January. I love to read and want to pass along this love to this new sweet spirit! Thanks for a great contest. My favorite game to play as a child was the Chinese jump rope on the playground. I always wanted to learn how to do a cartwheel the correct way ;)

I have 1 son and 3 daughters so either book would be fine
Please include me in your drawing

Anyone remember Tetherball? That would be the best. I was the hula hoop champ of my elementary school. I need to re-learn the cartwheel! I'd love a boy's or a girl's book, my little girl would love it when she gets a bit older but my nephews would love it now.

By Blogger Christina, at 11/03/2007 7:57 AM

Do you remember 4 square? Now that was the cat's pajamas at our school. To become the champ by the end of recess was a real triumph! Once the little man is big enough we might have to paint a square on our back porch.
Can't wait until my baby is big enough to take advantage of these books. We already have the boy's book so the girl's would be a great addition (for me of course...the only girl in the house!)
Thanks for the great giveaway.

By Blogger Beth H, at 11/03/2007 9:37 AM

I would love to win a boy's book for my son (and husband, LOL). I love Chinese Checkers and Backgammon. When I was a kid my thing was roller skating. I was really good at it, now I don't have the energy!

By Blogger Memarie Lane, at 11/03/2007 9:39 AM

My favorite retro game was also Chinese Jumprope (although I've forgotten how to do it now). I learned 4 squre as an adult, which was fun. I was horrible at any playground skills, and still am, so I would love to learn how to actually do double dutch or a cartwheel. I would prefer the boys book.

By Blogger HilaryS, at 11/03/2007 9:59 AM

I would love the boy book. As for retro games...I loved red rover or kick the can as a kid. I don't have any great playground skills, but I can still stand on my head. Does that count?

By Blogger Brit, at 11/03/2007 10:59 AM

I love all these schoolyard skills you're bringing up like 4-square + tetherball. i'm still a big kid + love skating + taking my daughter to the park.

Oh wow I really really want the boys book. Ive been eyeing it for awhile now!

I LOVE pickup sticks.. and though I dont think trouble is such a vintage game it was my favorite childhood game..

I can most defently hoolahoop, skip, jump roap, dutch jump roap, skateboard (yes thats funny to see a 4'10 kinda chunky girl skateboard), and I can still bend over backwards (and flip over).. I never could do a cartwheel and thats still a sore subject. :(

By Blogger Angela, at 11/03/2007 11:04 AM

I can still hula hoop, however it hurts the next day, but I was the tetherball champ in gradeschool. I even whooped all the boys. Oh I can still do an aerial cartwheen, but that REALLY HURTS......immediately.

I would like the boy book. Thanks, Kelli

Jump rope was always fun, as well as hopscotch, and of course, the hula hoop!!

I would love to have the book for girls for my daughter. My boys have the "Dangerous" book and love it!!

By Blogger Christine, at 11/03/2007 1:12 PM

I'd love to have one of each, since I have a boy and a girl although my daughter is closer to daring and dangerousness, in general!

I wasn't at all daring or dangerous as a child so I am constantly trying to stop myself from being a stick in the mud with my kids...

By Blogger Superdumb Supervillain, at 11/03/2007 1:24 PM

your favorite retro game: Twister

can you do an amazing schoolyard skill like cartwheels or hula hoop: I can do cartwheels, play four square, tether ball, and climb on a jungle gym with the best of them!

what kid's skill do you still want to learn: I wish I could go back to when I didn't care what other people thought. The creativity that came from that was phenomenal. It's amazing what you can make when you aren't afraid of being wrong!

do you want a boy's or girl's book: Since I want both, and can't decide... Just suprise me!

I grew up with all boys, so needless to say I can throw a mean curveball...Baseball was our signature game when I was growing up. I can really miss those good ole' days of nothing but carefree fun! Now that I have a son of my own, I hope that he always enjoys God's creation the way that I do! And that book....I was so hoping that he would get it for his birthday a couple of weeks ago, but he didn't. What a treat it would be to our whole family to win it! We would definitely put it to good use! Thanks for the chance to win this great giveaway!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/03/2007 1:32 PM

We own The Daring Book for Boys; what a fantastic book! We'd LOVE to have the girl's book for our daughter!

The classic board game I most remember is good old Candy Land. The classic toy I loved best was Inchworm...I'm so glad they've brought him (her?) back! Alas, I never master the cartwheel. About the best I could do was a somersault. I would love it if my daughter could learn to cartwheel, make her own playhouse and tent, make a cootie catcher (I remember them well, but couldn't make one today)...All those wonderful, classic, old-fashioned things too many of us have forgotten.

Thanks for the chance to win the book!

My favorite game growing up was Candy Land. As for video games, I'd definitely have to say Zelda or Mario Brothers. ~lol~ I'd love win the book for boys for my son. :)

By Blogger HilLesha O'Nan, at 11/03/2007 2:00 PM

I loved to play string games when i was a kid. My brothers would never play with me so I had to enlist my mom whenever I wanted to play.

Hula Hoop was also a wonderful skill I had. I tried this summer and could not do it. I wish I still could do it.

I was also always doing cartwheels and handstands. I did cartwheels everywhere, in the yard, in the house, in the aisles of the stores, etc.

I would love the girls book for my nieces.

By Blogger lace, at 11/03/2007 2:02 PM

I want a girls book SO badly! Let's see I wish I could do a cartwheel, never got the hang of that. I liked playing 4 square & hopscotch at the playground :)

By Blogger Ginny, at 11/03/2007 2:16 PM

Just last month we were at a friend's cookout when hubby said, "this driveway is perfect for 4-square"...and I think a tradition has been born. All the grown ups and kids had so much fun! I'd love to have a copy of the Girls book for reference as my daughter grows!

By Blogger Michelle, at 11/03/2007 2:33 PM

I loved to play the Cats in the Cradle string game! Skills? Well, I could do a cartwheel, though I never could hula hoop and was always jealous of those people who could go on and on and on! I would also like to learn how to double dutch jump rope. I would love the girl book!

By Blogger Unknown, at 11/03/2007 3:07 PM

Oooh-my fav retro game has to be freeze tag. I wish I could still climb the monkey bars. Where did all my arm strength go?

I would love a boys book for my son.

Julieannmead@gmail.com

By Blogger Julie, at 11/03/2007 3:10 PM

I've got six daughters so we'd really enjoy the Daring Book for Girls. I was great at doing tricks on the monkey bars at school and can still do one called The Dead Man's Fall. I still want to learn how to double dutch with jump ropes.

I would love to win the book for girls since I already have the one for boys. I think that my favorite game from when I was a kid was dodge ball. I also loved rollerskating.

By Blogger Becky, at 11/03/2007 4:26 PM

I can still do a cartwheel. It's not as pretty as it once was, but I can still do it!

My 7 year old would love the book for girls!

My fav retro game is cats cradle, you know, with the checkered elastic band thingy you hold in your hands. I also do a mean hula hoop. I'd still like to learn how to ride a unicycle! If I won I would really really want a boys book, but I'm not sure why cause my boy is already dangerous as it is. :)

Oh, how I wish I could do a cartwheel! It's one of my 40 things to do. I never knew how as a kid, either. I did do double dutch but very seldom and not very well. Mostly, I was a loner so I know how to make blades of grass whistle and twist dandelions into necklaces but I don't know any good jump rope rhymes or the rules to the weird game with the bucket at the top of a pole with four chutes coming out of it that you throw a ball into.

By Blogger Jenna Z, at 11/03/2007 5:43 PM

Hi, I can hang from my knees upside down on the playground bars! I would love to have the boys'book. Please enter me in your contest. Thanks, Cindi

My favoraite retro game - probably what we called hand jive at my school, a chorigraphed song and clapping thing. Stupid I know.

Not much I can stll do from those days - except some origami I learned way back when...

I'd love to learn some woodworking skills - so that would mean Dangerous for me...dang gender roles!

By Blogger Opening Pandora, at 11/03/2007 5:57 PM

Does Scrabble count as a retro game? That's our favorite around here although we mostly play the online version now! And I still want to learn how to do a somersault because I have the very "grown-up" fear of breaking my neck. Boy book please!

By Blogger Katie, at 11/03/2007 6:05 PM

I would love the girl book. My favorite activities when I was young were the string games you play with your hands and a friend like cat's cradle. I would love to share the games in this book with our daughter Storey. Thanks!

Fav retro game: Does using my imagination and daydreaming count?
Schoolyard Skill: Hula Hoop. I used to be a champion! I.. don't think I'm that great anymore though lol :)
Skill I want to Learn: Double Dutch! I never did get the hang of it :)
Book I want: The girls book! :D

I can hula hoop like a champ. My hubby thinks it's hot. ;) Retro gmae? What's retro? We play Scrabble and Clue. Girls, please.

By Blogger bioluminescence, at 11/03/2007 7:12 PM

dang, posted already and forgot part. i would love to learn to do a cart wheel.

By Blogger bioluminescence, at 11/03/2007 7:13 PM

Favorite retro game is by far tiddlywinks or marbles, my Grandpa taught us all how to play when we were little, it's been years though!
Amazing schoolyard skills that I've maintained are slim, but I can unbelievably still do the splits!
I would love to learn how to hula hoop; even with hips I've always been terrible at it!
I would want the girls book (since I bought the DH the boys for Father's Day (his first).

I would love the girl book. I have loved the boy book. I wish I could do a cherry drop - you hang upside-down and flip off the bar. I never dared as a kid and wish I had learned.

Let's see... I LOVED hopscotchas a child but I still need to learn how to whistle properly! LOL! I can do a cartwheel but it's a no-go on the hula hoop! I would love to win the boy's book for my little Aidan!

I was in a hula-hoop competition in middle school; didn't place in the top 3, though. I also had a pogo stick; never really got good at it, though!
I'd love to try for the boy's book, please! Thanks!

My fav retro game would have to be Twister... it's interactive, and you can play it as an adult with a whole new "twist!"

I can do an amazing schoolyard trick - a cartwheel with NO HANDS! I mean it! :)

I still want to learn how to play marbles.

I would love the girl's book for my daughter. :)

By Blogger Brooke, at 11/03/2007 9:53 PM

I hope this is retro: I love Candyland! I can do cartwheel, hula hoop, and double dutch (jump rope). I would just like to have the fearless abandon children have. They are willing to try anything. I would love either the boys or girls book.

One thing that I've always wished I could do was to do the "grass whistle" (you know, pick a thick piece of grass, hold it between your thumbs just so, and make this duck-like whistle) that my dad and my uncles could do.

If I win, I'd like to receive the Dangerous Book for Boys. Then all I'll have to do is buy the Girl's book for the other twin. ^_^ But she's pretty dangerous, too. ^_^

Hey I think the one retro toy I remember playing with and still would until this day is the Slinky and the Rubix Cube. I'd tell you though, the one thing I always wanted to be able to do as a child and just couldn't get it down was to be able to do a cart wheel. I know it sounds silly but I would like to just do those over and over again. I would like the book for a boy since I have a son.
Thanks

My fave retro game is one that I don't see around too much - it's called Happiness. It was like a few mini-games all in one big game. My retro skill would have to be the famous arm/hand motion popularized by Bernadette on ZOOM! The things I could never do were cartwheels and handstands - I always thought it'd be fun, but could never get it right.

I'd love to have the boy book for my son.

I want to publish a book full of Jump Rope chants and games. Trouble is, I don't remember that many of them. I do know I could double dutch by the time I was in 3rd grade, but we moved to the "big city" of Fargo when I was in 5th, and jump rope just wasn't cool there. Bummer. But I could still kick some ass on the playground with my mad hula hoopin' skillz.

I'd love this book for my daughter. Right now, she can't sit up yet, but she'll get there. And she'll be really daring!

I think my favorite retro game is tetherball. I was so good at it. My son plays it at school now, and I've been thinking about getting a set for home. I can still to the hula hoop, although not well. I used to be able to do cartwheels, but not any more. I'd like to be able to to them again because my son has been trying to learn how. Then I could show him. I would love the book for either boys or girls since I have at least one of each.

I can do cartwheels and back bends!

I want to learn how to be REALLY good at jacks.

I'd love a girls' book!

Chinese jump rope!! I need to find one so my kids can start playing. :D

I'm not sure which book I'd rather have - probably the one for girls as my dd could use some more adventure. And the title of the boys book makes me a little nervous, lol.

Fun contest, thanks~

Does Monopoly count as a retro game? :P And I *wish* I had those playground skills still! Right now I am working on getting back in touch with my imagination again - I love the way my son can turn anything into a forklift or garbage truck!

And since I have 2 boys, of course they need the Dangerous Book for Boys!

I can't hula or cartwheel. I can kinda skip...does that count?

I'd love the girl book :)
Thanks.

Oh goodness, when I was in school we played Duck, Duck, Goose; Red Rover, as well as kickball. All faves of mine.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/04/2007 2:30 PM

oh forgot!! Either one would be fine with me as I have 4 boys and 3 girls.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/04/2007 2:31 PM

I saw this on Good Morning America...would love for my daughter and myself to share !!

By Blogger Lisa, at 11/04/2007 2:38 PM

My favourite retro game is Red Rover - we played it as kids when we visited friends, but I'm young enough that it was banned at my school for its potential to cause injury. I don't think I have an amazing schoolyard skill; my trick when I was a kid was bending my thumb backward until it touched my wrist, but while that thumb is still more flexible than most people's it's no longer quite that flexible. A kid's skill I still want to learn is whistling with my fingers (the kind that's really loud).

I'd be thrilled with either book, but if I have to pick one I'd pick the boys' book because that's the one I'd be able to share with the kids I know sooner.

My e-mail address is in my Blogger profile.

By Blogger ikkinlala, at 11/04/2007 3:33 PM

we own the boy edition and both my big boy and my little guy love it! i so want the girl book to share with my daughter. i haven't seen it but i wonder if they have "light as a feather, stiff as a board" which i played at EVERY single sleepover in middle school!

contact info in my profile.

I bought "The Dangerous Book for Boys" for my daughter before I knew she was a daughter, so the girl's book in on my Christmas wish list.
We always loved playing "Red Light, Green Light," and I could probably do a cartwheel once before my back tried to teach me a lesson!

By Blogger Rick, at 11/04/2007 8:39 PM

these look so fun. i was just reminiscing about candy;land and decided i would definitely get it for my three year old this christmas. it has been so long since i have had "playground" fun with my kids. i guess i need the book (either one) to learn to let loose with the tikes every now and again.

By Blogger Dansie Family, at 11/04/2007 8:58 PM

I loved playing dodge ball in PE when I was a kid. It was so rad. Unless you are playing with a bunch of hormonal prepubescent boys. Then it stinks. Never did I quite figure out how to do a cartwheel. I was the only girl at recess that did somersaults rather than the far trickier cartwheels. The guy that ran the local gymnastics class advised me to take a remedial class rather than gymnastics 101 with all my girlfriends. Ouch. Since I'm emotionally scarred from that (just kidding, well sort of) I would looove to learn how to do a killer cartwheel. I've been known to Hula Hoop for one or two revolutions. That's it, but hey, I can do it!I'd love a copy of the girls' edition. Fun giveaway.

By Blogger heather h, at 11/04/2007 11:21 PM

Is Monopoly retro enough?
I was always good at hopscotch. I'd love to be able to hula hoop.
A boy's book :)

I'm pretty good at double dutch and tether ball! I have a little girl (6 months) who already seems very physical and ready to be DARING!

My son and I love to play hopscotch. He's learning his numbers, so its fun to mark/hop on them.
I can still do cartwheels and my boys are learning about tucking their chins to do summersaults (sp?). I would love to learn how to do a handstand -- I've never quite gotten the balance correct.

I'd love the Girls book!

As the mom of boy/girl twins, I hope that they both become daring and adventurous in their own lives (right now, we're the ones living in peril at 18 mos. along!, so I could use either book). I could do cartwheels (but not round-offs) and hula hoop moving the hoop from the neck to the knees. Hopscotch, baton twirling and jacks were popular with the girls on my block and co-ed kickball was also fun. I guess I still need to conquer that round-off and double dutch jump-rope would also be on the "to do" list! Thanks, Debra (Houston, TX)

By Blogger debra, at 11/05/2007 8:47 AM

I loved cooties as a kid. I loved making the bugs. I am the third of 6 children and it came with enough pieces that we could all play. Also after building them we would play with them like they we did with our fake barbies.

I was the master teetherballer in my grade school and middle school. I still hula hoop today.

I wish I had learned to do a cartwheel as my daughter is very flexable and into gymnastics and I can not help her.

I am a mother to both a boy and a girl, however if I win I would prefer the Girl book since she is the younger and we have more boy stuff and she needs something girly.

By Blogger q, at 11/05/2007 11:38 AM

I loved hopscotch, chinese jump rope and all the hand clapping games (Ms Mary Mack).
I'd like a girl's book. =)

By Blogger Saph, at 11/06/2007 5:29 AM

I look forward to relearning lots of kids' games as my daughter grows, but I definitely need a tutorial on the hand clapping games! stl2515527@yahoo.com

My favorite retro game is "Red Light - Green Light" and "Red Rover". As a kid I spent all my time outside playing. The only schoolyard skill I have left is my ability to do the monkey bars. I'd like for my 3 year old son to be able to climb a rope. That skill always evaded me - it takes a lot of arm strength. Having two boys, I would love the boys book. It would help me learn some new games for them!

As both a MOM and a DAD to SF I could totally use The Dangerous Book for Boys!

My fav retro game is Candyland and I used to be able to do the spilts three different ways! WooWee!

By Blogger Ms. Mamma, at 11/06/2007 10:21 AM

Splits, that is!

By Blogger Ms. Mamma, at 11/06/2007 10:22 AM

Ok ... does anyone remember the old party game called "Feeley Meeley"? I remember playing that for hours in my grandmother's basement. On the schoolyard, I was queen of Chinese jumprope and not too bad at Pogoball either. I've never learned to hula hoop, but there's still time.
Both books seem awesome, but I have a very dangerous 2-year-old boy, who I think needs that book for boys.

For the record- I was the double dutch champion at our school. I'm betting I could still kick butt at it. And my fave retro game is by far Twister. Can't beat it, even though I am way to pregnant to play now! I would love the girls book for my little sister- she is 10.

By Blogger Andi, at 11/06/2007 11:16 AM

My favorite "retro" game is probably candyland or two square (which I definitely plan to pass along)!

I know I can still do a cartwheel and front handspring, but my best "skill" would probably be jump rope!

I'd still like to learn how to trill my "R"s - my son who is 2 can do this better than me!

I'd love a boys book!!

I would like the boy book because I have boys. My childhood was filled with the outdoors, my grandparents raised me on a 91 acre farm. we did almost everything outside. I learned to play baseball...not softball and football, and build forts and stuff like that.

By Blogger labbiegirl, at 11/06/2007 7:11 PM

As a kid I was really good at 4 square and tetherball. Kicked booty on the play yard with those games! I remember doing friendship bracelets and friendship safety pins. Would love to learn jacks, I never really played the game. I would love to have the book for my daughter so she can learn all those fun and some what lost games.

I would like the girl's book

By Blogger Unknown, at 11/08/2007 7:13 AM

My favourite Retro Games were *red light-green light*, double-dutch jump roping and chinese jumprope. I dont remember much of my chinese jumprope skills anymore but I am still a darn good hula hooper! I would love The Daring Book for Girls. Refresh my memory and teach me a few new things to play!

Best schoolyard skill: hula hoop and using the lemon skipper (basically a line that hung from one ankle with a lemon on the end, you'd swing it in a circle around your ankle and jump over the line with the other foot).

My favorite retro game: sardines (the opposite of hide and seek, one person would hide and everyone else would seek and line up behind the hider like sardines, the last was it and had to go hide)

Kid's skill to learn: cartwheel, never could do one!

A girl's book would be great, my son doesn't need any help being dangerous!

I loved to play Clue. So much fun! I can still do cartwheels and sometimes the splits but it's been awhile since I've tumbled (like in gymnastics). I would still love to learn how to do a flip off the bars and actually land on my feet. I think I'd love either the girls' OR the boys' book.. I have one of each. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

By Blogger jenna, at 11/09/2007 1:51 PM

I love kickball...don't know if that's a retro game or not. But dressing dolls is fun too. I was never really a toy kinda gal. Loved being outside and playing. I can do some pretty mean playground tricks still like climb trees, ropes, do the monkey bars, and swing high like a pie in the sky! I was actually looking at this book for my son. I think he would get a kick out of it.

By Blogger Unknown, at 11/09/2007 3:16 PM

Red Rover and kickball- I wowed them at gymboree the other day with my hula hoop skills- okay- maybe just my two year old who wanted to do it too. Love a copy of the boys.

By Blogger Unknown, at 11/10/2007 2:58 AM

Dodgeball! I can hoola hoop, but I think a kart wheel would send me to the ER.
I would like a boys book, or a girls book, I have both boys and girls in abundance! Do I have to choose? LOL

By Blogger Qtpies7, at 11/10/2007 12:20 PM

I would like a girl's book. Since I am a girl I think it would be fun to read with my wee girl. I would have loved this as a kid.
I used to love drawing on the sidewalk with chalk and collecting/rocks. Not much of a game I guess. I also spent many a summer evening doing kartwheels on our front lawn.
fun times!

Do you remember the game Flinch? I always loved the box. Never could figure out just how to play it but I loved the picture on the box! LOL I also loved our Speak 'n' Spell. My kids have my old one and play with it in the car all the time!
I used to jump rope a lot... "cinderella dressed in yella went upstairs to kiss a fella. Made a mistake and kissed a snake. How many doctors will it take?" :^D Memories...

I would love a boy's book since I have four boys!

By Blogger Nan, at 11/10/2007 9:09 PM

When I think of my favorite *retro* game, LiteBrite comes to mind...I used to play with that for hours. This post made me wonder if I could still do a cartwheel...I used to be pretty good at those, even no-handed ones! I would really love to juggle or yo-yo; I think my son would get a kick out of that.

I'd love a boy's book, but a girl's book would work too; I am hoping for a daughter as well in the near future!

I love playing the retro board games "Go to the Head of the Class" or "The Hardy Boys Game". I do have the useful talent of being able to hula hoop for looong periods of time. I would love to learn how to jump "double dutch". I'd enjoy a girl's book. Thanks!

By Blogger Katie B, at 11/11/2007 1:33 PM

I loved playing hopscotch. I love hula hooping too, when I was ten I hula hooped for over 2 hours once. I can also Hula while going up and down stairs :)

I would love either book but if I had to pick I would pick the girl book.

By Blogger noreen, at 11/11/2007 6:51 PM

The Dangerous Book for Boys would be wonderful. I worked a mean jump rope in my day. It was the cool thing to do.

My favorite retro game -- what was that one called that had the little popper to roll the dice? Trouble? Aggravation? I always liked that one.

I bought myself and all the children some good quality hula hoops and we all learned how to "hoop" last year. It was something I never mastered as a child.

Now if I could only learn to do the limbo. LOL

Either book would be great, as I have five girls, and four girls.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/12/2007 7:23 AM

Retro games-would skip it count?

I'm not so good with the schoolyard skills-I can make my eyes wiggle, that's always impressing to children-

I would love th eboys book!

By Blogger Alison, at 11/12/2007 4:31 PM

I love hopscotch, can't hula hoop, kinda cartwheel, guess it depends on who's judging! I can jump rope like nobody's business, but need to brush up my double dutch! I would love to win the girls book!

By Blogger The Saunders Family, at 11/12/2007 5:59 PM

oooooh i love these books. i would be happy with either one since i have both boys and a girl. My cool playground trick was flipping off the jungle gym. i love all games retro and fondly remember monopoly marathons which lasted days and days. i also loved kick the can. i really really want these books because I cannot do lots of cool stuff and i would be the coolest mom if i could a)whistle b)carve with a knife c)throw a spiral d) remember any jumprope rhymes. thanks

I love, love, love these two books! I haven't bought them yet, because my kids are young (4 and 1), and it seems like they would be more of a gift for my husband and me! Some of my favorite things in these books are how to tie knots, tying a sari, telling ghost stories... I can't wait to read them cover to cover!

I was a really good four-square player. I also loved to hula-hoop!

By Blogger Unknown, at 11/18/2007 11:04 AM

I grew up playing Twister with friends and Sorry! and Scrabble with my grandma. I have *never* been able to do a decent cartwheel and hate to admit but my husband can still hula hoop better than me! I guess since my girls are teens now my boys would love the book for boys! I am sure it will keep them busy...and my on my toes.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/18/2007 5:49 PM

Jumping rope is my fav retro thing to do. I used to be pretty good at it. I still am, but can't do it near as long...

Girls book would be best.

By Blogger Candes, at 11/18/2007 11:28 PM

I loved Chinese Checkers as a kid. My dad and I would play for hours. I liked playing patty-cake type games in the school yard with my girlfriends. I always wanted to learn how to do a backflip. I was to chicken to try in gymnastics class.
I would prefer the Boys book.

By Blogger Whitney, at 11/19/2007 1:57 PM

Hi, Mod Mom! I'm so excited that I found your blog, I'd really like to improve upon your design, too!! That's for a private conversation, I guess!

My favorite retro game would have to be Clue. I loved playing it growing up, and still love to play. At a restaurant in St Louis, called, Blueberry Hill that I love to go to. They have games on the tables and you can rent the pieces for a 5 dollar deposit. I usually choose a Clue table, but they have others, too.

I can still hula hoop, jump rope, stick a playing card in my bike spokes, you name it. Cartwheels will be more fun when Alexis, my daughter, can learn how to do them, too. I imagine we'll be cartwheeling in the yard until it is dark. The limbo is still a fun time, too.

I never got the hang of foursquare, I was always more interested in wall ball! Same with tetherball. Actually, I'd like to go back and be a kid again. Play some crack the whip where I'm not the tail flying into the air!
